Ways to teach notetaking - SLM

Nudging Toward Inquiry: EXTRACTING RELEVANT INFORMATION and NOTE TAKING
Kristin Fontichiaro is a assistant professor at the University of Michigan, and she compiled a list of strategies collected using the SLM blog. "As students transition to note taking, librarians can demonstrate that taking notes is more than copying, highlighting, or recording "the answer."

This is a good site to recommend to parents.  It clearly explains the risks involved in letting your child be unsupervised online and how you can make it safer.  Also has a teachers' section. And is available in French.

No Name-Calling Week is Jan. 24-28, 2011, and is based on an idea from James Howe's book, "The Misfits."
